WHY I USE A FLIR T-420bx AS MY THERMAL CAMERA
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay
too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought
was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot
- it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.” _ John Ruskin
THERMAL DIAGNOSTICS
About ten years ago I noticed that more of our clients were calling to consult on deficiencies that
were discovered by use of a thermal imaging camera. I became fascinated by the technology and its use in residential condition
monitoring. At that time the cost for a good camera was prohibitive and very few good cameras were being used in residential inspections.
Still today many inspectors use less than the 120 x 120 resolution required by ResNet for energy auditing. This summer Flir introduced
a camera with the technology to aid in the detection of common variances in the building envelope of residential construction. I now
can offer thermal diagnostics for your home as a stand alone inspection or in a package with my other inspection services. The camera
assists in locating problems with energy loss, electrical, plumbing, and pest infestation.
